Toombs County High School athletes left their mark on the GHSA Region 3 AA Track Meet held on April 23rd and 24th in Blackshear, GA. The event, which brought together the best talent in the region, saw Toombs County emerge with several champions and a host of sectional qualifiers.

Leading the charge for the boys was Caden Marsh, who clinched the title in the shot put, showcasing his strength and technique. Erick Stevens hurdled his way to victory in the 110-meter hurdles, while Juan Luna demonstrated endurance and speed to take the top spot in the 3200-meter race.

The girls’ team also celebrated triumphs, with Shaylin Stringer taking first place in the discus throw and Angelica Laura securing her champion status in the shot put, both proving their dominance in the field events.

The meet was also a qualifying ground for sectionals, and Toombs County athletes stepped up to the challenge. Brock Nobles powered through to a second-place finish in the discus and fourth in the shot put, showing versatility and prowess. Caden Marsh also claimed third place in the discus, adding to his medal tally for the day.

In the high jump, Gavin Fletcher leaped to a commendable second place, while Juan Luna added a fourth-place finish in the 1600-meter to his list of achievements. The relay teams were in fine form; the boys’ 4×100 team, comprising Lagonza Hayward, Keshon Deloach, Gavin Fletcher, and Zireese Scott, raced to fourth place. Not to be outdone, the 4×200 team of Hayward, Fletcher, Donterius Mincey, and Erick Stevens sprinted to a third-place finish.

Don Mincey made a strong impression in the 400-meter dash, while Shania Brown hurdled to a personal record and fifth place in the 100-meter hurdles. The girls’ 4×100 relay team, featuring Tatyana Moore, Kassinda Laurnceau, Kara Marsh, and Shaylin Stringer, displayed speed and teamwork. On the hurdles, Brandon Stevens scored valuable points for the team, finishing fifth and sixth in his events.

The results from the region meet are a testament to the hard work and dedication of the Toombs County athletes and their coaches. They now set their sight on sectional competitions, which will take place on May 4th at East Jackson High School in Commerce, GA.(Courtesy of Toombs County Athletics)
