5 6 24 Toombs Baseball

The Toombs County Varsity Bulldogs swept the Washington County Varsity Golden Hawks in their playoff series, winning 6-1 and 7-0, to advance to the elite eight of the GHSA state playoffs. Their next challenge is a series against Rockmart that begins on Monday, May 6, 2024.

In the first game, Brantley Upshaw led the Bulldogs from the mound, striking out ten batters and allowing just one run over nearly seven innings. A highlight of the game was Trayvone Harris’s critical home run. Harris, alongside Upshaw, Cameron Ledford, and Jackson Jenkins, each had two hits, with Harris and Jenkins each driving in two runs.

The second game featured TJ Stanley, who pitched a complete game shutout, striking out 11 batters. The bottom of the lineup also made a significant impact, with Kipp Mosley, Tyson Brantley, and TJ Stanley combining for four of the team’s seven hits and scoring four runs between them.

With the sweep, the Bulldogs are now set to face Rockmart in the next round of the playoffs. The first game of the series will take place on Monday, May 6, with a possible deciding game on Tuesday, May 7.
