4 16 24 Toombs Co BB

Overcoming a five-run deficit, the Toombs County Bulldog Baseball team staged a late rally to defeat the Vidalia Indians 6-5 on Friday, winning the three game series and locking in the #2 seed from Region 3 for the GHSA AA playoffs.

The Bulldogs initially trailed, but the tides turned dramatically in their favor later in the game. The climax came in the bottom of the sixth inning when Trayvone Harris belted a solo home run to lthe eft-center field gap, capping off the Bulldogs’ comeback.

Despite an early error that gave the Indians the lead in the top of the first, the Bulldogs responded emphatically in the bottom of the fourth inning. After Tyson Brantley was hit by a pitch that resulted in a run, a defensive error by the Indians allowed two more runs to score. Brantley Upshaw’s timely single brought in two additional runs to tie the score.

Ryder Sears came out of the bullpen to secure the win for the Bulldogs with a tight two-inning stint, surrendering just one hit and zero runs, striking out two, and issuing a pair of walks.

Upshaw started the game on the mound for the DAWGS. He gave up five runs, none of which were earned, on four hits. Harris stood out at the plate with two hits, two walks, and an RBI.

The Bulldogs will close out their regular season on Tuesday with a game versus the Metter Tigers. This is Senior night and Recreation night, so be sure to make plans to come out and attend the festivities.(Courtesy of Toombs County Athletics)
