obit Rocket

Mrs. Ruth Koehler Rockett, age 87, of Lyons, died Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at Piedmont Healthcare in Athens.  She was born September 20, 1936, in Ceylon, Minnesota to the late Meta Elizabeth Nolte Koehler and Louis Carl Christian Koehler. She was a 1954 graduate of Fairmont High School in Fairmont, Minnesota. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of sixty years, Sam Rockett and five siblings Herbert Koehler, Rosemary Sorensen, Jeanette Koehler, Joy Koehler and Mark Koehler. She was also preceded in death by her grandson, Rick Rockett. Mrs. Rockett was an excellent employee and highly regarded in every position she held. She worked for many years with the Liggin and Winkler Law Firm in Montezuma, Georgia where she and Sam lived for 27 years while raising their three children. She later worked for the law firm of Jon Coogle in Oglethorpe before she and Sam retired to Lyons in 1997. Ruth loved the Lord and so enjoyed her church family. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Statesboro for many years and became a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Perry when she moved to be closer to her children. Mrs. Rockett was dearly loved by her children, grandchildren and her great grandchildren. Her family rejoices that she is in heaven with Jesus where she has longed to be.

She is survived by her brother, David Koehler and wife Delia; her three children, Cregg Rockett and friend Diane of Montezuma, Scarlett Smith and husband Bobby of Athens, and Laurie Mullis and husband Tommy of Perry;  grandchildren, Patrick Rockett, Candace Horne and husband Matt, Sam Smith and wife Jamie, Stephen Smith and wife Catherine, Dana Hilliard and husband Knox and Thomas Mullis; and eleven great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held Friday morning, April 19th at 11:30 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor John Leuenbauer officiating.  Burial will follow in the Lyons City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday morning from 11:00-11:30.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Christ Lutheran Church, 208 Langston Road, Perry, Georgia 31069, Office (478) 397-5914.
