4 15 24 Toombs Co Soccer

Thursday evening’s Senior Night was truly one for the books the the Toombs County Soccer teams! The girls’ team dominated Bradwell Institute with a resounding 7-2 victory. Leading the charge was Emma Wright, who skillfully netted a hat trick. Emerson Powell contributed significantly with two goals, enhancing the team’s lead. Estrella Barbosa and Maggie Rodriguez each added a goal to the tally, rounding out a robust team performance.

The boys’ game was equally thrilling, featuring a dramatic showdown that extended into penalty kicks. Yovanny Zamorano was a standout, scoring two crucial goals during regulation to keep the team competitive. Goalkeeper Agustin Cruz was pivotal in the match’s outcome, making two critical saves during the seven rounds of penalty kicks. The tension peaked in the 7th round when Angel Morales successfully converted a decisive penalty kick, clinching the match winner. Notably, Cruz also made a significant save on a penalty kick late in the match, which was crucial in maintaining the Bulldogs’ momentum before Zamorano’s second goal equalized the score.

Both teams concluded the regular season on a high note with these victories, making the evening a memorable celebration of our senior players’ contributions throughout their high school careers.

Looking ahead, the excitement continues as we approach the first round of the GHSA state tournament scheduled for the end of next week. Specific dates and times for the matches will be confirmed soon and we invite our community to stay tuned and support our teams as they advance in the tournament.(Courtesy of Toombs County Athletics)
