Elmer Powell

Mr. Elmer “Elmo” Claude Powell, age 68, of Mount Vernon, died Monday, April 8, 2024, at Memorial Health Meadows Hospital in Vidalia, after a brief illness. He was a native of Wheeler County and lived most of his life in Montgomery County. He was a 1973 graduate of Wheeler County High School and worked as a logger with White Rose Trucking. In his spare time he enjoyed working outside, riding the buggy and working around cows. He especially loved spending time with family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Otis Powell and Daisy Weeks Powell; a daughter, Christy Powell; and siblings, Neal Powell, Lloyd Powell, Ralph Powell, Dewey Powell, Eddie Powell, Homer “Dutchman” Powell, Hollis Powell, James “Doc” Powell, and Zora Powell.

His family includes his wife, Debbie Nesmith Powell of Mount Vernon; three children, Stacy Powell and wife Ashley of Ailey, Chance Powell and wife Jessica of Mount Vernon, and Brandi Clark of Uvalda; one sister, Susie Carey and husband Larry of Mount Vernon; eleven grandchildren, Chrislyn Kersey, Kendyl Boyer, Sage Powell, Seth Powell, Saylor Powell, Brylan Thomas, Caleigh Powell, Ansleigh Powell, Kohen Foskey, Kaden Foskey, and Kyler Foskey; one great-grandchild, Ally Rose Bazemore; and several, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home of Vidalia is in charge of arrangements.
