3 28 24 Toombs County Soccer

The Toombs County Soccer teams delivered a doubleheader victory over their rivals, Vidalia, on a rainy night, completing the season sweep.

The Lady Dawgs (10-5 overall, 9-4 region) displayed grit and determination in a hard-fought match against Vidalia. Despite challenging weather conditions, the game remained tied 1-1 at the end of regulation. However, the Toombs County girls refused to give up. In overtime, Estrella Barbosa emerged as the hero, scoring the winning goal to secure a dramatic 2-1 victory. This crucial win not only extends their winning streak against Vidalia but also guarantees the Lady Dawgs a spot in the GHSA state playoffs!

The Toombs County boys’ soccer team (13-2 overall, 11-2 region) continued their impressive season with a convincing 5-1 victory over Vidalia. While Vidalia managed an early goal on a free kick just two minutes into the game, the Bulldogs remained composed. They responded with a dominant performance, scoring five unanswered goals to secure a decisive win. This victory holds even greater significance as it officially clinches the Region 3AA title for the Toombs County boys’ soccer team!

“I am incredibly proud of both teams for battling through the rain and putting in such a tremendous effort tonight,” said the Toombs County Soccer Coach. “The girls securing a playoff spot and the boys taking home the region title – it doesn’t get much better than that! These wins are a testament to the hard work and dedication of our players, and it’s truly special to achieve them against our rivals.” – Coach Jeremy Moore

Congratulations to both the Toombs County Girls’ and Boys’ Soccer teams. They will both be back in action as they close out region play at Appling County on Thursday, March 28th. Girls will start at 5pm and the boys match will start at 7pm.(Courtesy of Toombs County Athletics)
