GilesPIC3

It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Mr. James B. “J.B.” Giles, age 78, of Soperton, Georgia.

With his family by his side, he peacefully slipped from this life on Tuesday evening, March 26, 2024                                                                                    while being comforted by and cared for at Community Hospice in Vidalia, Georgia.  He was the beloved husband of Helen Brantley Giles.

Born in Byron, Georgia, he was the only child of the union of Story Monroe and Berta Carey Giles.  He grew up in Fort Valley where he attended school, as well as in Roberta.  On December 12, 1964 he married longtime Treutlen County resident, Emma Helen Brantley.  The newlyweds have made their home in Treutlen County for most of their married lives.  Mr. J.B. started working as a Mechanic and also spent twenty years working at Mason’s NAPA Auto Parts.  He had also worked as a sewing machine mechanic at the local Sewing Factories, in the Heating and Air Conditioning trade and as a Carpenter, with Hilbron Brantley in Macon, GA.

He and his wife have worshipped at the Holy Church of God in Soperton, Fellowship Holiness Church             and were presently members at Aimwell Calvary Holiness Church in Vidalia.

He loved to tinker and fix things, especially if it had anything to do with vehicles.  In his latter years, he enjoyed visiting with old and new friends and reminiscing old memories of earlier times and sharing bits of his learned wisdom.  He took pride in the fact that he helped all three of his son; replacing car motors, transmissions or whatever he saw that they needed.  Mr. Giles was never ashamed or embarrassed to publicly verbalize his love for his family by affectionately referring to his wife and even his sons as “Shug”.  He was honest to a fault, and was a man that believed in integrity, faith and family; all traits that are rapidly being forgotten.

In addition to his many friends and acquaintances, Mr. Giles leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted and loving wife of fifty nine years, Helen Brantley Giles, Soperton, Georgia, their three sons, Darin Giles, Vidalia, Georgia, Philip “Phil” Giles (Tag), Dudley, Georgia, Michael Giles and his wife, Cindy, Soperton, Georgia, six grandchildren, Jordan Giles (Andrea), Soperton, GA, Megan Coleman (Addison), Waynesboro, GA, Justin Giles, Vidalia, GA, Greg Giles, Atlanta, GA, Chase Giles (Chelsea), Cadwell, GA, Cody Giles, Hannah), Soperton, GA, ten great grandchildren, Ava, Ana Brooke, Jessa, Jayda, Jase, Shawna, Coleman, Cayson, Tucker, Hayven and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Good Friday, March 29, 2024 at the Blackville Church of God with Pastor Cody Sellers and Reverend Kendall Ward officiating.

Mr. Giles will be laid to rest in the Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery.

Serving as active pallbearers will be: Michael Giles, Jordan Giles, Justin Giles, Chase Giles, Cody Giles and Addison Coleman.

Serving as honorary escorts will be: Hilbron Brantley, Dale Brantley, Buck Brantley, Billy Phillips, D. J. Mason, Donnie Mason, Danny Mason and Newton Sellers.

His family will receive friends on Friday, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Sammons Funeral Home or family and friends may call at the family home.

In loving remembrance of James Benjamin Giles, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
