3 21 24 Toombs Co Bass

The Toombs County High School Bass Fishing Team, also known as the “Lake Dawgs,” made their return to competition on March 16th at West Point Lake in LaGrange, GA. After facing some challenging weather conditions in previous tournaments, this event finally presented some favorable fishing opportunities – and the results were impressive!

All Three Teams Reach Limit, Two Qualify for State Championship!

Capitalizing on the improved conditions, all three Toombs County teams managed to catch their full five-fish limit. The excitement truly peaked as the weigh-in revealed that two of the teams secured coveted spots in the upcoming State Championship in May!

Landrum & Martin Teams Punch State Championship Tickets:

  • First Place: The team of Gracie Landrum, Carlie Richter, and Boat Captain Brandon Landrum led the way with a combined weight of 9 pounds and 9 ounces. This impressive performance guarantees their participation in the State Championship.
  • Second Place: Not far behind were Levy Martin, Drew Woodruff, and Boat Captain Stacey Martin, who reeled in a total weight of 9 pounds and 3 ounces. This strong showing also qualifies them for the State Championship in May.

Bagby Team Falls Short, But Shows Promise:

While AJ Bagby, Clayton Williams, and Boat Captain Justin Bagby’s team finished with a respectable weight of 9 pounds, it was just shy of the qualifying mark for the State Championship. However, their performance demonstrates the talent and potential within the entire Lake Dawgs program.

Looking Ahead to Lake Hartwell:

With two teams qualified for the State Championship and the rest of the team gaining valuable experience, the Toombs County Bass Fishing Team is riding a wave of success. Their next challenge awaits on April 20th, 2024, when they’ll be casting lines at Lake Hartwell. We wish the Lake Dawgs the best of luck in their upcoming tournaments and congratulate them on their fantastic showing at West Point Lake! (Courtesy of Toombs County Athletics)
