The Toombs County Bulldogs came away victorious in a nail-biting 4-3 win over the Pierce County Bears on Thursday. The game went down to the wire, with the Bulldogs capitalizing on a late-inning error to secure the dramatic win in nine innings.

Pierce County struck first in the bottom of the second inning, plating a run on two singles. Dylan Figueroa delivered the RBI single, giving the Bears an early lead. The Bulldogs wouldn’t stay down for long. They tied the game in the top of the fifth inning thanks to a single by Jesus Quintero and a ground out by Tucker Braddy that brought a runner home. With the score tied at 3-3 in the top of the ninth inning, a crucial error by Pierce County allowed the winning run to score for the Bulldogs. This dramatic ninth-inning victory allowed the Bulldogs to pick up the series win.

Both teams relied heavily on their relief pitchers. Jackson Jenkins earned the win for Toombs County, throwing two scoreless innings with four strikeouts. Ryder Sears also pitched effectively in relief, allowing no runs on three hits over four innings. TJ Stanley got the start and went three innings giving up three runs.

Brantley Upshaw led the Bulldogs at the plate with three hits, while Quintero, Tyson Brantley, and Braddy each drove in a run. The team displayed patience at the plate, drawing six walks, with Trayvone Harris and Quintero leading the way with two walks each.

The Bulldogs will look to build on this momentum as they continue region play with a series against Tattnall County next week. Currently, games are set for Tuesday (home at 5:45pm), Thursday (at Tattnall Co. at 6pm), and Friday (home at 5:45pm). Please note that game dates and times could change due to weather.
