Mount Vernon, Ga – Brewton-Parker Softball took on No. 17 Middle Georgia State on Thursday afternoon.

Brewton-Parker (12-8, 4-4 SSAC) went 1-1 on the day with the Knights (15-7, 5-3 SSAC). The Lady Barons picked up game one 2-1 but dropped game two 6-4.

How It Happened | G1 – BPC 2, MGA 1

After starting the game with three scoreless innings, BPC struck first in the fourth inning. A single from Taylor Elliott got the Lady Barons on base. Rylie Lumley, who came in to run for Elliott, stole second, before being brought in from a single from Cailyn Snellgrove to take a 1-0 lead.

Ashley Wilson got on third after a single and advancing on two groundouts. Wilson was brought in with a single from Tori Wright to increase the Lady Barons’ advantage to two runs.

The Knights brought the game back within one in the top of the sixth. Middle Georgia picked up three hits and scored one run, but it was not enough. The Lady Barons held off the Knights to take a 2-1 victory in game one. 

How It Happened | G2 – BPC 4, MGA 6

Brewton-Parker started the game hot with singles from Destiny Lucas and Wright. A wild pitch got BPC into scoring position before a single from Alyssa Usrey scored Lucas, and a sacrifice fly from Elliott brought home Wright.

Hailey Gabrich picked up a triple to right center to bring home Usrey, giving the Lady Barons a 3-0 lead. In the top of the second, the Knights picked up a pair of hits and scored two runs, making it a 3-2 ball game.

BPC extended their lead with a pair of hits from Wilson and Alexis Bradshaw. A ground out from Lucas put them into a threatening position as Wright hit a sacrifice fly to bring Wilson home for the 4-2 lead.

In the top of the fourth, Middle Georgia took a 5-4 lead with three runs off of three hits. After a scoreless fifth inning, the Knights extended their lead to 6-4 with another hit. The Lady Barons were unable to catch back up, and dropped the game 6-4 to finish the day.
