Treutlen County Deputy Registrar Keri Hedgecock reports that longtime Sheriff and Incumbent Tommy Corbin, a Republican, is being challenged by Kyle Strickland, who qualified as a Democrat. Strickland is currently the Chief of Police in Adrian.
All three districts on the ballot for seats on the Board of Commissioners have opposition. In District 1, Incumbent Cali Little Hollis, a Democrat, is challenged by fellow Democrat Tabitha M. Noble for the May election where the party winner will be on the November ballot against Philip Morris.
In District 3, three Republicans are running including Incumbent Lance Hooks, Rodney Meeks, and Chester Kight.
Likewise, two Republicans are vying for a seat in District 4. Qualifying for office are Incumbent Joey Powell, and challenger Brandi DeLosh.
Three seats are up on the Board of Education, but with only one person qualifying in each district. In District 1, Toni Banes will fill the position as will Zachary Mixon in District 2, and Jeremy Lanford in District 4.
And voters around Georgia made their voices collectively known in the Presidential Preference Primary with in-person voting culminating the election on Tuesday. However, voter turnout around the state was considered low according to Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger’s Office.
As expected, former President Donald Trump handily garnered the votes of Republicans and as of Wednesday afternoon, had 84.47 percent of the votes. President Joe Biden received 95.19 percent of the Democrats votes. However, in the totality of the election, Trump would have been the clear winner had the Office of President been decided in Tuesday’s election. With the latest President Preference Primary, Trump and Biden have secured their party’s nominations in a rematch of 2020 in November 2024.
