RTCA Crusaders Basketball Teams Win Two
Wednesday, 09 January 2013

January 9--The RTCA Crusaders Basketball Teams won a pair of games over the Heritage Academy Eagles Tuesday night, in Brunswick. The girls winning by a dominating score, 56-4. The boys winning their game, 56-27. Both teams go to 1-0 in region play. The Lady Crusaders are 5-9 for the year. The boys are 3-6 overall .

For the Lady Crusaders, Sydni Collins led the way in scoring with 20 points, followed by Caylie Burton with 10 points.

In the boys game, Herron Gardner led the Crusaders in scoring with 12 points, Toby Upshaw and Shedrick Brown each had 10 points.

" We are playing really well, I think that is a direct result from the schedule we put together prior to our region schedule, it was our first region win, but it was also our first region game. It looked terrible on paper at 2-6 at Christmas, but we were playing up two classifications, the smallest school we played was a triple A school. The opportunity to play those bigger schools has really helped us to get better, and pull out a thirty point win our first region game." Coach Tim Slater said.

" This weekend coming up, I have had circled for a long time, it gives us a chance to play a region game on Friday at home, and then have a two and a half hour travel the next day to play a really good team, and a team that is better, Frederica Academy, back to back state champions in double A in boy's basketball. This is a simulation for the state tournament, you have to practice how you perform in state playoffs. It's one of the things you have to do, if you really want to make a run in the state tournament." Slater said.

The RTCA Crusaders will be back in action on Friday, when they host Providence, with the girls game starting at 6:00pm, and the boys game to follow. You can hear all the action on Sweet Onion Country, WYUM, 1017FM.
