Former VHS Lady Indian Williams Named GSC Player Of The Week
Tuesday, 08 January 2013

January 8--Valdosta State sophomore guard Kourtnee Williams was named the Gulf South Conference's Player of the Week for her performance over the course of four games over the holiday break. Williams averaged 16.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.8 steals per game during the stretch and led VSU to a 3-1 record, including two important conference victories.
This marks her first time to receive the award this season and in her career, and Williams is also the first Lady Blazer to win it since Brittney Nelson claimed the honor the second week of the season. She led the team in scoring throughout the four games and started with an 18-points, nine-rebound, six-assist performance against Saint Leo, followed by 19 points, six rebounds and five steals on the road versus Albany State.
Williams also put in 13 points with six assists in a hotly contested GSC victory over Alabama-Huntsville. In fact, she hit the last field goal in a 54-51 victory. She also dropped 15 points, eight rebounds, four assists and four steals against Shorter with 13 of those points coming in the first half.
Throughout the stretch, Williams proved to be Valdosta State's go-to player at the end of the game. If she wasn't sealing games from the charity stripe, she was doing it on the drive.
For the season, Williams is averaging a team high 14.4 points with 5.9 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. She has already surpassed her freshman season in points and rebounds.
