Wednesday, 21 November 2012
November 21--ImageThe VHS 37th Annual Highway 280 Tip Off Tournament, sponsored by STC, was completed Tuesday night with the VHS Indians boys team crowned the winners. Despite not having a lot of the team's starters on the floor, due to them still playing for the football team, who are in the state playoffs, the Indians battled back from being fouteen points down at halftime to win the game by ten points, 67-57.
" It is just an overall team effort, I could'nt be more proud of those kids. We challenged them at halftime to just come out and play like they are capable of playing, we had so many young guys, in this atmosphere, in a championship game, they are not used to it, so we asked a lot out of them, and they performed in the second half." Coach Tommy Dalley said.
" They just came out and stepped up and made big shots, it could have been a little better at the free throw line down the streach, but a freshman comes in and hits a big three, Raekwon Reed a big three, I don't think Ramel Thompkins came out of the game all night, and what a job Terry Jones did against there big kids. This was a huge win for us without all of those other kids, that we are expecting them to come out and play, and just to be at that level, and compete at that level, was a tremendous job." Dalley stated.
The VHS Lady Indians were defeated by the Ware Co Lady Gators in the girls championship game 48-41.
