Treutlen Rallies Late for Road Victory
Saturday, 03 November 2012

November 3--  Despite trailing by 9 points with just over 4 minutes left, the Treutlen Vikings rallied to score twice and pull out a 21 - 16 victory over the Glascock County Panthers in Gibson, GA.  It was the second road win in a row for the Vikings.

Treutlen scored first on a 8 yard run by Jaeron Wise and Nathan Drake nailed the PAT attempt with 29 seconds remaining in the first quarter to take a 7 - 0 lead.  Two stingy defenses and an over abundance of penalty flags prevented either team from scoring again in the first half.

After a turnover gave the Panthers a short field, QB Cliff Jones punched it in from 1 yard out on a sneak with 9:10 remaining in the third quarter.  The 2 point conversion was good and the Vikings trailed 8 - 7.

Glascock srtruck again on another Jones 1 yard run and converted on another 2 point try and the Vikings trailed 16 - 7 with only 4:11 remaining in the game.  Things looked bleak with the Vikings down by two scores but no one told Drew Gillis as he promptly took the kickoff 55 yards to paydirt and got Treutlen back in the game.  A 2 point conversion attempt was unsuccessful and the Vikings trailed 16 - 13 with 4:00 minutes to go.

The Treutlen defense fed off the momentum swing and forced Glascock into a three and out to give the Vikings one last shot at a win.  QB Kris King led the Vikings down the field with timely receptions by the Treutlen receivers, good runs by the backs, and good upfront blocking by an exhausted offensive line.

King punched it in from the 1 yard line with only 49 seconds remaining and then hit Kyle Rosen on a 2 point conversion catch to give Treutlen the 21 - 16 lead.  The Viking defense held again and Treutlen took over on downs with 16 seconds remaining to seal the victory.

Treutlen will take to the road for the third week in a row next Friday night as they return to Savannah for a region crossover rematch with Calvary Day.  Treutlen will look to avenge a 27 - 18 loss to Calvary back on September 21st.  Kickoff is set for 7:30 and all the action can be heard on Sweet Onion Country 101.7 or online at www.southeastgeorgiatoday.com.
