Barrow Committee Assignments
Friday, 09 January 2009
January 9--  Washington, D.C. – Congressman John Barrow (GA-12) today announced his subcommittee appointments on the House Energy and Commerce Committee for the 111th Congress.  Barrow will serve on the Subcommittee on Health, the Subcommittee on Energy and the Environment, and the Subcommittee on Commerce, Trade, and Consumer Protection.

“These are probably the three most important subcommittees in the House, with jurisdiction over health care, energy, and consumer protection,” said Barrow.  “The costs of healthcare and energy are out of control, and they’re pulling too many Georgia families under.  These subcommittees are the most important place to be for me to do something to help.”

The House Committee on Energy and Commerce is one of the oldest standing committees in the U.S. House of Representatives, with the broadest jurisdiction of any committee in the House.  The Energy and Commerce Committee has jurisdiction over 60 percent of the legislation coming through the House, more than all others combined, including subjects such as interstate and foreign commerce, health care, energy, food and product safety, trade, and nuclear energy.

“Folks are worried about what’s in the food they’re eating and what their kids’ toys are made of.  Serving on the Subcommittee on Commerce, Trade and Consumer Protection gives me the opportunity to continue to educate the public and keep them safe.”
