Work Starts on Vidalia Onion Museum
Thursday, 08 January 2009

January 8-- Construction has begun at the Vidalia® Onion Museum building, located at 100 Vidalia Sweet Onion Dr. off Highway 280.  Local contractor Mullis Construction began working on the project the week of Christmas.  The retrofit of the City’s property is the next phase of the $200-thousand museum renovation project undertaken by the Vidalia® Onion Museum Committee.

Work includes raising the ceilings and, according to Committee chairperson Wendy Brannen, structural changes needed to ready the building for traffic flow through soon-to-be-installed exhibits.  Brannen says the group has raised 65% of the funds necessary to complete the project, but they are looking to the community for much-needed donations.  She has worked the past two years collecting historical accounts and memorabilia that will be displayed upon project completion, expected early next year.
