Toombs Co. Bulldogs Fall To Bacon Co

September 14-- The Toombs Co Bulldogs were defeated by the Bacon Co Red Raiders 7-6, in Lyons on Friday night. The Bulldogs lost for the first time this year in a hard fought defensive game. The seven points given up tonight were the first time the Bulldogs had been scored upon all year.The Bulldogs led for most of the game 6-0, until late in the 4th quarter.
The 1st quarter had no scoring by either team, a TD was called back when a holding penalty was called on the Red Raiders. Both teams commited turnovers in the 1st quarter, Toombs Co fumbled a punt, and Bacon Co threw a pass that was intercepted by Cody Dowd.
The Toombs Co defense stopped the Bacon Co offense on a 4th down play from the 12 yardline with 9:37 left in the half.
The Bulldogs scored in the 2nd quarter when QB Ben Brantley had a 1 yard run with 4:14 left in the half after a long drive by the offense. The extra point try was no good. Toombs Co 6, Bacon Co 0. Hard running by Mark Terrell, Demetrius Taylor and Jamar Smith took the Bulldogs down the field.
The 3rd quarter was like the 1st quarter,  with no scoring by either team. Tomond Hampton did a fantastic job punting the ball, and keeping the Red Raiders on their side of the field.
The Bulldogs defense stopped the Red Raiders on a 4th down play at the 15 yardline with 3:56 left in the quarter.
Bacon Co in the 4th quarter completed a long pass over the middle, putting the ball down to the 16 yardline with 2:04 left in the game. A few plays later the Red Raiders scored on a 4 yard run with 35 seconds remaining in the game. The extra point was good. The Bulldogs got the ball back and on the 2nd play , QB Ben Brantley threw a long pass intended for Tomond Hampton was intercepted , and Bacon Co took a knee and ran the clock out for a 7-6 win.
The Bulldogs travel to Metter to play the Tigers next Friday night at 7:30pm.
