Wednesday, 12 September 2012

September 12--The VHS boys' and girls' cross country teams traveled to Swainsboro on Wednesday, 9/12, to run the newly developed 5k course at East Georgia State College.  Both teams finished in 2nd place, falling behind Swainsboro in each race.   Trace Calloway continues to lead the Indians in running.  Calloway was 2nd overall with a time of 20:33.  Tyler Campbell, coming in as the 2nd Indian once again, was 4th overall in 20:57.  Will Harn, third for the Indians and tenth overall, finished in 22:06 with Michael Joiner just one second behind in 22:07 as the 11th overall finisher.  Finishing up scoring for the Indians was Robert Petty, 12th overall, in 22:31.  The rest of the team finished in the following order:  Greg Johnson (22:37), Sterling James (23:11), McKenley Corbitt (25:13), Carson Cato (25:20), Drew Powers (25:38), Jake Everett (26:27), Dalton Scott (27:56), Ben Everett (30:24), Chason Collins (31:18).

The lady Indians were led by Jenna Wheeler, 3rd overall, with a time of 28:24.  Kimberly Warren, 4th overall, was close behind Wheeler with a time of 28:55.  Maja Mitchell, new to the team, was the third lady Indian to cross the finish line with a time of 32:24.  Carolina Thigpen scored as the 4th lady Indian in 36:49.  Katelyn Achenbach was 5th for the lady Indians in 38:41 with Abbie Chesser close behind in 39:01.

"Almost all of the runners improved their times from 30 seconds up to a few minutes.  The cooler temperatures and the culmination of weeks at the track should cause times to drop each week. The runners work hard every day and should reap rewards from their efforts as the season progresses, " says Coach Humphrey.

The Indians host their first home meet on Tuesday, September 18 at 4:30 p.m.   Please come support your Indian cross country teams.
