Indians Win Region 2AA Opener
Saturday, 08 September 2012

Sept 8th---The Vidalia Indians moved to 2-0 on the young season as they scored 24 first half points and held on to beat McIntosh County Academy 27-18 Friday night at Buck Cravey Field. The Indians got two scores in the first quarter from junior quarterback DJ Mincey; the first a 1-yard plunge following a Buccaneer turnover to make it 7-0 and then a 39-yard scamper to put the Indians up 14-0. The Indians third score of the night was a 3-yard run by Rashaad Thompkins following a McIntosh bad snap on a punt attempt to make it 21-0 with 8:24 to go in the half.

But that's when McIntosh, who had been held in check all night long on offense, got things going. Beginning on their own 35, the Buccaneers went 65 yards and chewed up over 7 minutes off the clock and capped off the drive with a Gerald Rhymes 15 yard run to make it 21-6 following a failed 2-point attempt. The Indians would then close out the scoring in the half getting a 41 yard field goal as time expired from first year kicker Dakota Paradice to make it 24-6.

McIntosh would control the 3rd quarter on offense and defense scoring a touchdown on a 1-yard run to make it 24-12 following another missed 2-point conversion with 9:02 to go in the third. And on the other side of the ball the Bucs limited the Indians to just six offensive plays the entire quarter. McIntosh would get another score to start the final quarter, a Derry Herrington 6-yard run, and following another failed PAT it was Vidalia 24 MCA 18.

Neither team was able to move the ball into the end-zone the rest of the night, but Vidalia got another field goal from Paradice, this time a 34-yarder to make it 27-18, and the Indians held on for the win. The Indians will next travel to Ludowici on Friday to take on Long County, with kick-off set for 7:30 and all the action can be heard on Your Favorite 98Q.
