Indians Fall in Scrimmage
Saturday, 18 August 2012

August 20-- The Vidalia Indians broke away from the regular routine of practice and hitting each other to travel to Lincolnton to take on perennial Class A power Lincoln County in a pre-season scrimmage. The Indian offense was able to move the ball most of the night scoring two touchdowns in 3 quarters but fell just short of the win 17-16.

The Indians scoring came from a 14 yd pass from Quarterback DJ Mincey to Nic McBride and a 9 yard run from Juan Foster. Dakota Paradise also added a 38 yd FG. Mincey was 4 for 9 for 79 yards and a touchdown, while Juan Foster led the rushing attack with 55 yards on 13 carries.

The Indian offense outgained the Red Devils 226 to 178 and had a chance to take the lead late in the game. After the Red Devils took advantage of a short field to take the lead 17-16 early in the fourth quarter, the Indians marched down the field eating up chunks of yards and the clock all the way from their own 30 to the Lincoln County 9. But when the Red Devil defense stiffened, the Indians were forced to try a 26 yard field goal from the left hash mark, which sailed wide to the left.

The Indians will open the GHSA regular season on the road on Friday August 31st, when they face AAAA West Laurens. Game time is 7:30 pm and you can hear the game on Your Favorite 98Q or online at www.southeastgeorgiatoday.com
