Mayors Planning for New Year
Friday, 02 January 2009

January 2--  You can expect to see more improvements to the infrastructure of both Vidalia and Lyons in the new year.

According to Vidalia Mayor Ronnie Dixon, "We hope to add some new hangars out at the airport, expand the community center, and possibly provide some more money for the recreation complex we're adding out on the Ezra Taylor Road," he said.  Mayor Dixon said they're also seeking some federal dollars for road improvements including Adams Street and North Thompson Pond Road.

In Lyons, groundbreaking should be in the next few days for a new city hall.  The city awarded a $949,000 contract to John Lavender Construction of Statesboro, and Mayor John Moore expects completion by late Summer.  "We're excited about it and we want to get it started.  The folks who got the bid say they can have it completed within 210 days," he said.

Meanwhile, Mayor Moore expects work this year on a $500,000 community project on the heels of the downtown renovation which is wrapping up now.  "Right now we're finishing up our installation of pavers and sidewalks," he reports.  He adds, "We do have a project planned for the northwest part of town to include paving, curbing and drainage in that particular area."
