Lyons Invitational Youth Tournament Resumes Play
Friday, 08 June 2012

June 8th ---After being delayed for two days because of rain and wet field conditions, the 50th Annual Lyons Invitational Youth Tournament resumed at Partin Park in Lyons. In the Blue Division of the Junior Boys tournament, Lyons and Vidalia will meet in the championship round at 5:00 PM Friday. This will be a rematch of Thursday’s Semi-final round which saw Lyons beat Vidalia 7-4. Vidalia then had to defeat Jeff Davis for 7-2 for the right to play Lyons in the Championship round. Should an “if necessary game” be needed, the first pitch for that game would be scheduled for 7pm on Friday.

In other action, the Vidalia Midget girls have now won their first three games of the tournament, defeating Metter 17-0, Soperton 12-0 and Dublin 5-1. They will now face Glennville at 5:00 PM on Friday, with the winner going on to play for the Championship on Saturday morning at 11:30. The loser would still be alive but would have to win at 10:00 on Saturday morning in order to play for the championship.

Also on Thursday in the Red Division of the Midget Boys tournament, the Soperton boys split their first two games beating Long County 11-3, and then losing to Jenkins County 6-4 in the nightcap. The will now face Hendrix Park on Friday at 4:00 pm for the right to continue on in the tournament.
