Toombs County Coach Brian Fitzgerald addresses his team during the first week of practice. The Bulldogs lost 8 members off last year's squad.

Baseball in the GHSA officially started last week and area teams started practice. Those teams include the Toombs County Bulldogs, who, last year made it to the third round of the playoffs. Coach Brian Fitzgerald says his guys had been voluntarily throwing and hitting a couple of weeks before official practice, and that he hoped they would be starting “ baseball “ ready.  Fitzgerald says, “ we are extremely young. We only have only 3 seniors out on the field right now, only one junior, and number of sophomores and freshmen.” One thing the Bulldogs do have, is a fairly experienced pitching staff. The Coach says he has 6 guys he can put on the mound, and it should be their strong suit this year. Toombs lost 8 players off last year’s team.
