Vidalia Wrestlers Qualify for Sectionals

Seven of the ten wrestlers from Vidalia High School qualified this past weekend for the GHSA Class AA East Sectional Tournament.  Jacob Copeland finished second at 170 pounds to qualify for the fourth straight year.  He currently has a 26 – 11 record and a career record of 137 – 59 surpassing Vidalia great Jerome Powell for career wins.  His brother Daniel Copeland matched his feat finishing second at 195 pounds.  Daniel’s season record is 29 – 13.  At 106 pounds, Tevin Tolbert finished third.  Micheal Joiner finished third at 113 pounds while Tyler Campbell pulled in a strong fourth at 120 pounds.  Rounding out the lightweight classes at 126 pounds, Trayvon Simpson finished fourth.  Vidalia was the only school to post medallists in the first four weight classes.  At 152 pounds, Solomon McLeod added to his yearly medal total by finishing third.  Three Indians finished the season this weekend, two of them with wins.  Kyle Gasper at 285 pounds finished fifth bumping his season win total to 12; 10 of those by pin.  Shakeem Lassiter also finished fifth ending the season with 14 wins; 8 by pin.  Darnell Hendley added points to the team effort by finishing sixth and ending his freshman year with 18 wins.  The team finished in fifth place and look forward to competing at the East Sectionals in Dublin this weekend.
