SACS Team Completes Visit
Thursday, 08 December 2011

December 8--  A three-member review team from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) completed a follow-up visit to the Montgomery County school system Wednesday.

The team was checking to see if sufficient progress is being made to remove the school system from probationary accreditation status.  A SACS team visit last summer found eight areas related to school board governance which it said did not meet accreditation standards.

Tuesday the team met with school board members, representatives of the community,  former school superintendent Dale Clark and Kids First Montgomery leader Adrian Bell, and current and former employees including Luke Smith, the former Montgomery County High School principal.

Team leader Dr. Judy Forbes of Habersham County says the team's report will be filed with SACS before the end of the year.  Action on the report is expected before the school board returns to Atlanta in March for a second hearing before the state board of education.
