Toombs County High School Runs at STATE Cross Country Meet

For the sixth year in a row, the Toombs County Bulldogs teams qualified for the GHSA State Meet in Carrollton, Georgia. Senior, Daniel Avellaneda placed in the top 20 boys in the state. His official place was 14th, with a PR of 17:27.43. For the second year in a row, Daniel crossed the finish line as the second south Georgia runner at the State meet. Not only did Daniel decrease his time by 29 seconds, but he bettered his finish by 14 places from his Junior year.
The Bulldogs,  Region 2-AA champions, finished 12th overall, out of 31 teams were the second best South Georgia team, behind Thomasville .
Sophomore, Chris Quintero finishing second for Toombs County, placed  82nd with a time of 18:56, then it was Senior Esgar Maldonado  94th in 19:12, Freshman, Fernando Rodriguez placed 99th in 19:19, Junior, Rene Tinoco placed 112th with a time of 19:37, Senior Dakota Higgs placed 145th in 20:20, and Sophomore Travis Carter Morales placed 188th with a time of 21:31.
For the girls, Freshman Samantha Houston and Senior Kristen Flowers finished within a second of each other. Samantha ran the 3.1 mile course in 25:30 placing 121st and Kristen ran in 25:31 placing 123rd. Freshman, Bailey Bryson placed 171st, running 28:30, Freshman, Brittany Floyd ran 29:59 placing 185th, Junior Heather Villegas placed 191st  running 32:30 and Senior Georgia Jernigan placed 196th with a time of 32:50. The girl’s team placed 28th overall out of 30 teams.
