Coach Helms Retires

Coach Dewey Helms has retired as Track and Cross Country Coach at Vidalia High School. He has been in the Vidalia City School system 21 of his 22 years in education. Helms says he has a couple of opportunities, outside of education, that he he wants to explore.The Coach wants to assure everone that he is not sick. He says there was no problem with the school system, either. He just feels it's the right time. Coach Helms says, "it was a big decision on my part. I hate to leave the Vidalia City School sysytem because of all the friendships and relationships I've formed over the last 21 years, and especially the kids I've coached, and watching them grow into young adults. That's going to be thing I'm going to miss more than anything.

Taking over for Coach Helms will be Terri Humphrey, who has helped Coach Helms over the years. She says she is really excited about the challenge of the program.
