LPGA Announces Vidalia Plans
Friday, 29 July 2011

July 29--  The LPGA Futures Tour will return to Georgia next month for the inaugural Vidalia Championship. Set to take place August 26-28, at Hawk’s Point Golf Club, the 144-player field will return to Georgia for the first time in three years.

The event’s $110,000 purse will award $15,400 to the tournament winner after three days of competition.

The LPGA Futures Tour’s last trip to Georgia was in 2008 for The Duramed Invitational. That event was staged at Chateau Elan in Braselton and was won by 2008 Futures Tour Player of the Year Vicky Hurst, now on the LPGA Tour.

On Thursday, August 25th in Vidalia, the “Sun Mountain Skills Challenge Finals” will take place at Hawk’s Point Golf Club. Several LPGA Futures Tour players will compete in a “Big Break-style” set of skill challenges. Players will have qualified for the Sun Mountain Skills Summit by wearing Sun Mountain outerwear or using a Sun Mountain golf bag during competitive rounds leading up to the finals. Points are awarded for each round played using the company’s products, with bonus points awarded for finishing in the top 10 in each official tournament.

On Saturday, August 28, get your dancing shoes ready for the first annual “Dancing with the Pros” party. The night will feature a performance from one of the top bands in South Georgia, the Brookwood Split. The 12-piece, high-energy band will kick off the festivities at 8:30 p.m., and conclude at approximately 12:30 a.m. The event is free to LPGA Futures Tour players, staff and media. The public is welcome to attend the event at $50 per person.

In addition, a free junior golf clinic for the first 40 kids is scheduled at 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 23. The junior clinic will be held on the driving range at Hawk’s Point Golf Club.

During tournament week this year, pro-am tournaments will be held on Wednesday, August 24 and on Thursday August 25. The tournaments will start each day at 1:30 p.m. For more information or to register to play the pro-ams, contact Steve Holton at 912-537-9256.

General admission for the tournament is $10 at the gate or $25 for all three days. For more information, visit hawkspointgolfclub.com.
