Vidalia Junior Girls win state softball championship in Augusta

Vidalia defeated Wayne County twice, went to the loser's bracket 6-3 against Lee County, defeated Rome 23-2 and West Augusta 15-3 on Friday. Vidalia came out of the loser's bracket Saturday to defeat Lee County 7-6 in the bottom of the 7th on a walk off homerun by Sommer Wiggs. Vidalia defeated Lee County in game two to win the championship 8-6. Vidalia's Harley Beck pitched 5 complete games going 5-0. Sam Thompson was 1-0 in the victory over Rome. In other games, the Vidalia Junior boys lost their bid for the state title by losing twice Saturday to Colquitt County in Thomson.  Vidalia was shut out 10-0 in game one and lost game two 9-1.


The Vidalia Midget girls took second place in the state Saturday. They beat Cedartown 10-1 to get to tournament leader Wayne County.  Vidalia beat Wayne County in game one 12-3 but lost the "if necessary" game  9-7.

The Vidalia Mite Girls, ages 9-10, came in third in the state after losing to Wayne County 11-1.

Vidalia Rec Flea Boys took Runner-Up in the state tournament Sat July 9th.  They went into the championship game undeafeated beating Union City Thursday, Dublin and Thomasville Friday, they lost to Rockmart twice 8-6 and 5-2.
