Regional Unemployment Rates Rise

February 21--  The jobless rate in the nine-county Vidalia trade area was worse in December, 2010 than it was in December, 2009.

The highest unemployment rate in the area is in Jeff Davis County with 14.5% out of work.  Tattnall County has the best rate at 9.3% unemployed.

In Toombs County, the jobless rate is nearly a full percentage point worse than last year.  The 10.8% rate represents 1,461 people unemployed.

Statewide the unemployment rate was 10.2 percent in December, two-tenths of one percent higher than the year before.

The highest unemployment rate in the state is in Hancock County where more than 22 percent of workers have no jobs.
