"Assistant Chief Dale Dykes was honored by Elected Officials and fellow City employees at a Dinner held at the Vidalia Fire Department on December 28, 2010.  Accompanied by his wife (Judy) and large family Assistant Chief Dykes celebrated 38 years and 3 months of service to the City of Vidalia.  He has spent his entire career protecting life and property in the community.

A valuable member of a professional organization he has seen, and participated in, vast improvements in the fire service for Vidalia.  Assistant Chief Dykes provided continuing training for personnel, leadership for fellow firefighters and support for Chief W. T. Coleman during his tenure.  He was acknowledged for his accomplishments and service by Mayor Ronnie Dixon, the elected body of Vidalia, City Manager Bill Torrance and his entire fellow firefighting team.  In an emotional farewell Assistant Chief Dykes thanked everyone for their support and friendship over his career, wished everyone well and committed his continued support of the Fire Department.  Dale will most certainly be missed and everyone wishes him well and hopes that he enjoys a long and prosperous retirement."
