State Network Spotlights Santa Claus
Wednesday, 22 December 2010

December 22--  This is the busiest time of year for the town of Santa Claus.

This year the statewide Georgia News Network is featuring Santa Claus Mayor Earl Horton on its weekly "Georgia Focus" public affairs program.

During the program, Mayor Horton explains that Santa Claus grew from a roadside pecan stand in an orchard on U.S. Highway One south of Lyons starting in 1939.

He also explains to host John Clark that the town celebrates Christmas by lining its streets with Christmas candles on Christmas Eve.  Also, that during this time of year, he stays busy post-stamping Christmas cards for folks far and wide who want Santa Claus posted on their annual mailing.  Mayor Horton says over a thousand cards were stamped last year and they're busy again this year.

"Georgia Focus" is heard each Sunday morning at 6:05 a.m. on Vidalia's News-Talk radio station, WVOP at 970 on the AM radio dial.
