New District Engineer

December 20--  Georgia Department of Transportation Commissioner Vance Smith is proud to announce the appointment of Anthony (Tony) Collins as District Engineer for the 24 counties in Southeast Georgia that make up DOT District Five.

Collins began his career with the Department in June of 1983 as a co-op student in the Waycross Area Office. After graduating from Southern Polytechnic University, he worked in Road Design in GDOT’s Atlanta General Office and has held various engineering positions with the Department. His most recent position was District Engineer in the Tennille District.

In his new position as District Engineer, Tony will oversee all construction, maintenance, and operational activities in the 24 counties located in the Southeast Georgia. Tony has 26 years with the Department. His new position is effective immediately.

Collins graduated from Southern Polytechnic University with a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering Technology.

“We would like to welcome Tony back to the Southeast Georgia District. He previously worked for 18 years in District 5 and has good knowledge of the area. His commitment to overseeing the District makes me proud to work alongside Tony. Tony is an asset to Southeast Georgia and to the Department,” said Commissioner Smith.

Tony is from Waycross and has three daughters, Nicki, a graduate of Kennesaw State, Emma, a graduate of Waycross College, and Erin is a senior in high school.
