Board Dismisses Principal
Monday, 13 December 2010

December 13--  A Toombs County school principal is being fired for having an affair with one of his faculty members.

The Toombs County school board heard more than three hours of testimony in a dismissal hearing Monday night at the board office in Lyons.  After deliberating 20 minutes, the board voted to terminate the employment of former Lyons Primary School principal Tim Young.

Young admitted to having an affair with school teacher Trina Graham but denied it happened on school property.  Graham told the board it happened in Young's school office starting in January and ending October 24th when her husband found out about it and reported it to the county school superintendent.

Graham claimed she was a victim in the case because Young was her supervisor and remains employed at Lyons Primary.

Young has been with the school system for 26 years and now has 30 days to file an appeal with the State Board of Education or he can file suit in Superior Court.

At the hearing, he publicly apologized to his wife, the school system and the community for "making a bad choice."
