Angel Tree in Need
Monday, 13 December 2010

December 13--  The Salvation Army Angel Tree in Vidalia is a bit bare as Christmas approaches.

Kelly Tippett with the Salvation Army says the need is greater this year.  "There are a lot of people hurting this year due to the economy and unemployment in the Vidalia area and we have double the amount of needy children this year," she says.

Salvation Army Angel Trees are located at Walmart and Peebles in Vidalia.  Shoppers can pick a name from the tree and buy a Christmas present for the child whose name is on the tag.

This year there are 300 names on the trees, but only a hundred or so names have been chosen so far, Tippett reports.

"One of the gifts I picked up at Walmart this morning, the child said he liked bikes and Legos, and I had put on the tag that he also needed a winter jacket.  The person who picked the tag got all three for him, and that's the ideal donation," she said.
