Some Good Job News?
Wednesday, 08 December 2010

December 8--  There may be some good job news to report in Toombs County before the end of the year.

Bill Mitchell of the Toombs County Development Authority told the Lyons city council meeting Tuesday he thinks an agreement will be finalized this month on the location of a pet food company in the U.S. One Industrial Park north of Lyons.

Mitchell says he's confident U.S. Pet, manufacturer of gourmet pet foods, will co-locate in the Chicken of the Sea building.  He expects the company to make a $25 million investment and bring 150 jobs.

The Lyons council approved Christmas bonuses for employees.  Officials say the total cost to the city for all employees is about $10,000.

The city is taking quotes on health insurance for city workers.  Mayor John Moore says they're expecting an increase of nearly ten percent in premiums in 2011 and are looking for a better deal.

City councilman Ivy Toole, Jr. recommended the city try to increase revenue by making sure all city businesses are paying sales taxes.  He said it may take some help from state lawmakers to get the needed information from the state revenue department.
