Kellie Pickler Slated for Onion Fest Concert
Monday, 29 November 2010

November 29--  A country singer who launched her career on American Idol is coming to Vidalia next year to perform at the Vidalia Sweet Onion Festival.

An Onion Festival Concert Committee co-chaired by Richard Williams and Warren Sowell made the announcement Monday.

"We're hoping to really attract a much broader base of folks this year to come to the Onion Festival and by having the concert with Kellie Pickler we're hoping to attract people who haven't come before," Williams says.

Pickler sold over 800,000 copies of her first album after American Idol and Sowell thinks the small town girl from near Charlotte will fit right in at the Vidalia Onion Festival.

"We were looking for something new and different to have more people come to the Onion Festival.  She's been on the television a lot, is a very vivacious North Carolina lady, not bad to look at, and we hope she'll draw a young crowd," Sowell says.

The Pickler concert will be at Vidalia Regional Airport the Saturday night of the Onion Festival.

Sowell also reports the Festival Concert Committee would like to sponsor another concert in Vidalia later next year to help build revenue for future Onion Festivals.

"We're already talking about plans for another concert to be held sometime in late August or early September of next year just before Friday night football gets into full swing," he noted.
