Monday, 29 November 2010

November 29--  State Senator Tim Golden has officially announced he is joining the Republican Party. The long-time legislator from Valdosta has served 10 terms in the General Assembly as both a member of the State House of Representatives and the State Senate. Senator Golden has been a leading fiscal conservative and considered by many as one of the most pro-business members in the General Assembly.

Senate Republican Leaders are united in their support for Senator Golden joining the GOP.

“We welcome Senator Golden to the Republican Party. He has been a real leader on issues that help create jobs and support Georgia business. We have long felt his ideology is a good fit for the Republican Party and we are excited he is joining our efforts to make Georgia the most jobs-friendly state in America,” said Senate Majority Leader Chip Rogers (R-Woodstock). “With his 20 year record of service and pro-jobs philosophy, Senator Golden will become an integral part of Republican Party efforts from day one.”

Senate President Pro-Tempore, Tommie Williams (R-Lyons), says Golden’s decision to join the GOP makes the Republican led Senate even stronger, “I am happy to welcome Tim Golden to the Republican caucus. Tim has proven over a 20 year span to be a strong conservative. As the President Pro Temp of the Senate and a fellow Senator living south of the gnat line, I am encouraged to have another Republican Senator who understands the needs of South Georgia.”

“Tim has always been a reasonable voice for good public policy. He has done a great job representing the interests of South Georgia. I look forward to working with him as part of the majority party to help revitalize the economy in our region of the state,” said Senator Greg Goggans (R-Douglas)

“The Republican Party is growing in Georgia and Tim Golden’s decision to join us is proof-positive. Our philosophy of small government, pro-business, and accountability are right in-line with the values of Senator Golden. He is a natural fit with the Georgia Republican Party.” Caucus Chair Bill Cowsert (R-Athens)

"I welcome Senator Tim Golden to the Republican Caucus. It has been a pleasure to work with this pro-business Senator during my tenure in the Georgia Senate. His personal values and commitments are closely aligned with ours and he will be a great and effective addition to the Republican Caucus." Majority Whip Senator Cecil Staton (R-Macon)

"Tim Golden's pro-business voting record fits better with the Republican Party than what the Democratic Party has now become.  I have worked with Tim on a number of legislative issues, and he is a welcome addition to the Senate Republican Caucus." Republican Caucus Vice-Chair Senator David Shafer (R-Duluth)

Senator Tim Golden was re-elected with no opposition November 2, 2010 to his 11th term in the General Assembly. He represents Lowndes, Brooks, Cook, and Thomas Counties. The move by Senator Golden to the Republican Party means every member of the Lowndes County delegation is a Republican
