Audit Supports Board Member

November 22--  A state audit upholds the position of a Montgomery County school board member regarding who should pay the health insurance for the school board attorney.

When Alston school board member Deloris James took office in January, 2009, she objected to the school system paying part of the health insurance premium for attorney Tom Everett.

State auditors supported James' objections in their 2009 audit of the school system.  According to financial records, the school system was paying a monthly premium of $262.80 for Everett in 2009.

At this month's school board meeting, Everett informed the board he had acquired private health insurance.

School Superintendent Dr. Lynn Batten also reported his office is trying to tighten controls on use of credit cards, a recurring item from previous state audits.
