Thanksgiving at God's Storehouse
Monday, 22 November 2010

November 22--  Thanksgiving is coming a day early this year at God's Storehouse in Vidalia.

Director Tina Houser is expecting lots of company starting about eleven a.m. Wednesday.  "We're planning to feed about 1,200 people in Vidalia and surrounding areas for the needy who are going to come for a Thanksgiving meal," she says.

When you feed that many, you needs lots of help.

"I've been really blessed.  Denise Parson from Vidalia High School is going to be cooking 80 turkeys and Mindy from the First Baptist Church in Vidalia is cooking the other 40 turkeys.  It's such a blessing," she believes.

God's Storehouse is ten years old this year and Tina says she's seen her monthly food cost go up a $1,000 since August.  Community donations are making the Thanksgiving meal possible.

"A lot of people in the community have helped.  First Baptist gave me 42 turkeys, First United Methodist gave me 22 turkeys and the rest of the turkeys came in from different people in the community.  Frank Harrelson from the MIR place gave me cranberry sauce, DOT Foods gave me 54 pies and almost all of the bread we need.  It's just unreal the amount of support we've received and it's really a community effort," Tina reports.

Meals will be served from eleven till two Wednesday at God's Storehouse on McIntosh Street in Vidalia.
