Murder in Soperton
Thursday, 18 November 2010

November 18--  An elderly Soperton woman is dead in what authorities believe may have been a home invasion.

Treutlen County Sheriff Tommy Corbin says 88-year-old Alice Eleanor Williams was found on her bedroom floor at 7613 Eastman Road when her caretaker came to work Thursday morning.  Authorities said she had suffered facial wounds.

"It appears to be a home invasion, the door was kicked in, a few drawers had been gone through.  It looks like a home invasion robbery, but we don't have any definite details at this time," the sheriff said.

Sheriff Corbin reports another break-in occurred in a vacant home on Highway 29 in Soperton, but investigators don't know if there is a connection.

The GBI is assisting the Soperton Police Department and the Sheriff's Office with the investigation.
