Historic Village Visit
Tuesday, 19 October 2010

October 19-- Earlier this month, about 85 eighth graders from Montgomery County Middle School accompanied their teacher, Carol Morris, to the Historic Village at Brewton-Parker College.  The visit enhanced the students’ studies in Georgia history, which Mrs. Morris teaches.

The Historic Village Committee guided students through historic crafts and games, such as making corn shuck dolls, making butter, spinning yarn, and rolling a hoop, while also telling stories of the Cooper-Conner and Berry Thompson families who were early settlers to the area.  A pony and goats were on hand for students to pet, or in the case of the goats, attempt to milk.

Several Brewton-Parker college students, some of whom were dressed in period costume, acted as guides for the middle school students.

The Montgomery County Historic Village Committee and Brewton-Parker College welcome visits such as this.  For more information about touring the village, please contact Anice McArthur at 583-2517 or Mary Waalkes at 583-3110.

Brewton-Parker College is the only accredited, four-year Christian college in South Georgia.
