"Real Squeal" Weekend in Lyons
Thursday, 07 October 2010

October 7--  The city of Lyons is putting the welcome mat out this weekend for what it hopes will become an annual event.  "The Real Squeal, Barbecue and Bluegrass Festival" is a two-day event starting Friday evening in downtown Lyons, according to Lyons Better Hometown Director Alexa Britton.

"There will be vendors, barbecue teams and barbecue vendors set up from three until about nine o'clock Friday night.  Our amateur teams will be cooking all afternoon and their judging time is about seven-thirty Friday night.  We've got local bands lined up to play and it's just going to be a lot of fun," she says.

The event moves to Partin Park Saturday where professional barbecue cooks will be competing for $15,000 in prize money, and that's not all, according to Britton.  "There will be kids activities, there's live bluegrass music from ten till four, there's the Indian artifacts and primitive skills show in the park, and of course you'll be able to eat barbecue and enjoy other food vendors," she reports.

The "Real Squeal" wraps up Saturday night with a concert in the Blue Marquee Theater by one of the country's top bluegrass duos, "Dailey and Vincent.  "They are very well known. They won eight international bluegrass awards in 2008, they won several in 2009, and they just won five in 2010 including Entertainer of the Year," Britton says.
