September 28--  The Vidalia Kiwanis Club is honoring member Howard Holman with its annual George Hixson Award for service to the club and community. 
Kiwanis Club President Howard Hill presents the award to Holman. Vidalia Kiwanians will make a contribution to Kiwanis International in Holman's name.
Kiwanian Charles Andrew provides the following info on this year's honoree.
  • This year’s recipient is a tireless Kiwanis Club volunteer and has been for many years.  Many members have a hard time coming up with a weekly program for an outstanding speaker, and this year’s recipient has taken on the responsibility of coming up with excellent weekly programs for the majority of us for the past five years.  He in seeks out national, state and significant programs.
  • He has had a huge impact on the healthcare of the community by being the primary recruiter of over 30 new physicians for the community and local hospital. 
  • He is and has formerly been a VP and Director of the Toombs-Montgomery Chamber of Commerce. 
  • He is an avid supporter of the Sweet Onion Classic and one of its single largest fund raisers.
  • He is a Sunday School teacher and member of the Session at the Vidalia Presbyterian Church.
  •  He has been a past president and a past member of the Board of Directors of the Vidalia Kiwanis Club.
  • He is a Board of Director of the Boy and Girls Club of Toombs County.
  • He has been one of the leading program directors, and often chairman, of the Kiwanis Vidalia Onion Run for the past 33 years.
  • He is an avid promoter of the Ohoopee Library System.
  • He has been a past Lieutenant Governor of the local division of the Kiwanis Clubs of Southeast Georgia.
  • When asked to help, he never turns anyone down.
  • He is a Volunteer’s Volunteer of numerous community civic project in the county.
