Bethany Not For Sale "At This Time"
Thursday, 16 September 2010

September 16--  Rumors have been circulating that the Bethany Home in Vidalia is being sold to a company based in Norcross.

However, Bethany CEO Becky Livingston says the rumor is unfounded, at least for now.  In an interview, she told us "I do not anticipate that this Board (of Trustees) will sell these facilities at this time, if that's what you're asking me," she said.

Later Livingston furnished a letter which stated, "The Board of Trustees of Bethany has engaged UHS Pruitt to perform extensive clinical and administrative functions," and "is happy to join with UHS Pruitt...in the delivery of long term healthcare in Millen and Vidalia."

United Health Services (UHS) Pruitt Corporation owns nursing homes and assists other owners of nursing homes in Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina, according to Livingston.

The Board of Trustees includes members of the Primitive Baptist denomination which has operated the Bethany Home in Vidalia since 1923 and in Millen since 1951.

The CEO's Letter on the Status of the Bethany Home

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, the administration, and the patients of Bethany Home, Inc. d/b/a Bethany Nursing Center of Vidalia and Bethany Nursing Center of Milieu, hereinafter "Bethany," I am writing this correspondence in order to clarify questions that have been asked about the relationship with UHS Pruitt and Bethany.

In the tradition of quality long term healthcare carried on by Bethany since 1923 in Vidalia and since 1951 in Millen, the Board of Trustees of Bethany has made every effort to be as forthright in sharing information concerning the operations of the entire Bethany organization. Through a transparent process of planning, reviewing, and refining the goal of the highest quality possible in the long term healthcare profession, the Board of Trustees of Bethany has engaged UHS Pruitt to perform extensive clinical and administrative functions expected to result in a stronger, more efficient, and more clinically sound level of service,

UHS Pruitt Corporation is a Southeast Regional based organization engaged in providing management-related services for healthcare providers in Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. The organization shares the same values that have been the cornerstone core values of Bethany since its inception in 1923: family-centered mission, quality care, Christian atmosphere, and effective and affordable services. The Board is happy to join with UHS Prime in enhancing these values in the delivery of long term healthcare in Millen and Vidalia.

The Board of Trustees appreciates the commitment and quality of this long-standing member of the healthcare community and looks forward to a continued relationship that will benefit the communities that are served by the Bethany organization and specifically the residents and employees who serve in those communities.

Sincerely,

Becky D. Livingston, President  & CEO
