Sentences Returned in Toombs Court

August 30--  A man has been sentenced to prison in connection with a Vidalia traffic death.

Christopher Patrick Johnson entered guilty pleas for vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of an accident.  Johnson's vehicle struck pedestrian Michael Crooms at the intersection of McIntosh and East Jenkins Streets December 11, 2009.

Toombs Superior Court Judge Kathy Palmer sentenced Johnson to 15 years in prison.

Armed Robbery Sentences

Three people involved in a holdup at K.E. Butler's Jewelry in July, 2009 also received prison terms from Judge Palmer.

Nicholas Maurice Singleton and Tere Edmond were sentenced to 25 years in prison.  An accomplice in the robbery, Tanika Wills, got a 15-year sentence.

Singleton and Edmond were also sentenced to additional prison terms after pleading guilty to three other robberies in Vidalia which occurred in June and July of last year.

Escapee Sentenced

Two men who escaped from the Toombs County Detention Center will serve additional jail time.  Jerry Lamont Flowers and Clifford Bagley, Jr. escaped last March and are having five additional years added to their prison terms.
