August 23--  The August term of the Montgomery County grand jury returned 38 indictments against 42 people.

Nine indictments were returned in drug cases against Antonio Shinholster, Gwen Kelly, Earnest McRae and Barclay Burns, all of Mount Vernon; Timothy Wooten and Antoine Johnson, both of Uvalda; Frank Hampton of Vidalia, and Lachesia Wilcox of McRae.

A dozen people indicted for burglary include Mount Vernon residents Christopher Gillis, David Johnson, Jonathan Conrad, Samantha Avery, Brittany Turner, Carla Shepherd, Randy Tharpe and Michael Selph; Byron Shinholster of Uvalda, William Taylor III of Jesup, Perry Pope of Glenwood and Deremmus Williams of Lyons.

Aggravated assault indictments were returned against nine people including Perry Lee Kennedy, Dexter Fields, Anthony Hunter and Charlies Nobles, all of Mount Vernon; Daniel Moore of Uvalda, Cody Turner of Lyons, Edison Young of Ailey, Alex Charles Hudson of Vidalia and America Pickle of Lyons.

Indictments for theft are pending against seven people identified as Shaunteia Stewart and Shannon Page, both of Vidalia; Jeremy O'Conner, Jonathan Conrad and Daniel Paul, all of Mount Vernon; Jonathan Johnson of Soperton and James Beckworth of Lyons.

Sex indictments were filed against David Lee Paul of Mount Vernon for statutory rape and Daniel Foster of Sylvester for child molestation.  Bobby Newkirk of Mount Vernon was indicted for failure to register as a sex offender.

Other indictments were returned against Mark Rogers of Mount Vernon for making terroristic threats, Lonnie Lanier of Mount Vernon for criminal damage to property, and Calvin Braddy of Warthen for hiding property in an attempt to defraud.
