August 2--  If writing is on your "Bucket List," Brewton Parker College is offering a once-a-week course in creative writing during the Fall Semester.

Dr. Thom Brucie, professor of American Literature and Creative Writing at the college, is teaching the course.  "It's really designed to be a small group of people who are interested in writing.  It doesn't matter where they are in their ability to write, they'll learn something and they'll gain something from the class," he says.

One facet of the course addresses how to write for publication, and Dr. Brucie says members of the group help each other improve their skills.  "Especially if they haven't been able to find a writing group who understands the complexity of writing, this is a good opportunity for them.  Normally, the people who come to the class are sympathetic because they are all writers," Dr. Brucie notes.

Dr. Brucie encourages older writers to join even though they may not have been in a classroom for years.  "I was a lifelong learner and didn't go to college until I was in my 40's, so I'm very empathetic to people who are returning to school," he says.

The course will be taught Thursday evenings from six till 8:30 on the BPC campus.  You may contact Dr. Brucie at 912-583-3104 to discuss enrollment.
